WE START WITH THE MARKET
Power-to-P did not begin with a laboratory breakthrough. It began with a societal challenge.
Phosphorus is an essential and critical resource, while large quantities are lost through existing waste streams. Growing concerns about resource security and the need to recover phosphorus have led to regulatory requirements that place responsibility for phosphorus recovery with our customers.
For sewage sludge incineration plants, this turns a societal challenge into a very practical industrial one: how to comply with new requirements through a solution that is technically reliable, operationally manageable and commercially viable.
As suppliers of sludge drying systems, we saw this challenge emerging directly among our customers. Investment decisions were being affected by the lack of a practical and economically attractive route for phosphorus recovery.
Rather than starting with a technology and searching for a market, we started with the market problem and searched for the right solution.
That search led us to a promising patent from DTU – and became the starting point for Power-to-P.
We Validate Before We Scale
Innovation should reduce risk, not create it. Early development showed that the original concept could not be industrialised within acceptable technical and economic boundaries. Rather than refining an unsuitable solution, we fundamentally redesigned the process around proven industrial technologies. We believe in validating assumptions early, learning quickly and making changes while they are still inexpensive.
Simplicity Creates Reliability
Industrial operators should not have to become chemical specialists. From the beginning, we have designed Power-to-P with automation, operational simplicity and predictable performance as primary objectives. Whenever possible, we favour robust and understandable solutions over unnecessary complexity. Simple systems are easier to operate, maintain and trust.
Complete the Value Chain
Technology is only one part of a successful business case. During discussions with future customers, we recognised that marketing and selling recovered products represented a significant uncertainty. Plant owners wanted confidence that valuable products could be sold—not just produced. Because commercialisation is one of our core competencies, we chose to manage the off-take of recovered products ourselves. By aggregating production from multiple facilities, we create reliable supply chains, stronger market access and greater value for both plant owners and end users. This allows our customers to focus on operating their facilities while we focus on maximising the value of the recovered resources.
Built on Industrial Experience
We combines entrepreneurial thinking with decades of industrial process experience. Through the Eilkær Group, we build on a long tradition of developing and delivering process solutions for industry. This practical engineering background has helps us distinguish between ideas that are interesting and solutions that can be implemented successfully at industrial scale.
Commercial Value Drives Sustainable Innovation
The green transition will only happen at scale when sustainable solutions also make business sense. Discussions with future customers consistently confirmed that environmental benefits alone are not enough to justify investment. Projects must also deliver predictable economics, manageable operational complexity and long-term value. These insights became design criteria—not marketing messages. Full valorisation of sewage sludge ash, minimal waste streams and efficient resource recovery were therefore developed as commercial advantages as much as environmental ones.
Build Ecosystems – Not Empires
We do not believe successful industrial innovation requires doing everything ourselves. We focus on developing technology, optimising processes and commercialising recovered products. Engineering, manufacturing, construction and commissioning are carried out by experienced industrial partners with deep local knowledge and established customer relationships. By allowing every partner to focus on their core strengths, we build stronger projects, reduce execution risk and create an ecosystem that can scale far beyond what any single company could achieve alone.
We Learn by Building – not Engineering
Development is rarely a straight line. Our pilot facility is continuously modified as new knowledge emerges. Ideas are tested, challenged and improved through practical experience rather than assumptions alone. By learning early and iterating continuously, we reduce uncertainty before technologies reach commercial deployment.
